For this weeks's Family Friday, we have a fun arts and crafts activity with Allie the Alligator! In Allie the Alligator, children will learn all about alligator facts. Children will then make their own Allie the Alligator and see how strong her jaws can be. Read our step-by-step guide on how to play this interactive literacy craft for kids at home!
What you need:
- 20 mini marshmallows
- 2 sheets of green construction paper
- 1 sheet of red construction paper
- ½ sheet of white writing paper
- Glue
- Scissors
- Black marker or crayon
Step 1
Open up your Footsteps2Brilliance App, and go to Level 2 (Yellow). In your library, find the Alphabet Animals book series. Find the book Allie the Alligator. Read the book with your child. Be sure to touch the illustrations to see the pictures come alive!
Step 2
Fold one sheet of red construction paper and one sheet of green construction paper in half (hamburger fold).
Step 3
Starting from the fold line, trace an alligator head (half football shape) on the green construction paper. Trace the same shape on the red construction paper. It is important that the red and green construction paper are the exact same shape. Cut out the green and red construction paper.
Step 4
Glue the red paper inside of the green paper. This will be the inside of the alligator mouth.
Step 5
It is time to add the alligator’s teeth! Glue 10 mini marshmallows on the outer edge of the top of the red paper and 10 mini marshmallows to the bottom of the red paper. Let the marshmallows dry completely before closing the mouth.
Step 6
Add eyes and a nose to your alligator!
Step 7
Create the body: Using the second sheet of green construction paper, cut the paper to be the same width as the head. Glue the alligator head on the bottom of the page. Using the extra paper, cut out 4 legs and a tail. Glue them on!
Step 8
Glue the ½ sheet of writing paper on the alligator’s body. Play Fast Facts (Level 2, Alphabet Animals, Allie the Alligator, Games) and write the facts on the alligator as you play. Add any additional alligator facts from the Allie the Alligator book to your alligator!
