This week, you and your children will read The Girl Who Cried Wolf and write a new fable. If you haven't already, read The Boy Who Cried Wolf as well. Your children will get to go through the writing process and make their own creative version of these stories! Have fun with this fable writing activity!

• Glue
• Scissors

Pre-made templates (here)

• Roll-a-Story activity (page 1)
• Write Your Own Roll-a-Story graphic organizer (page 2)
• Extra lined paper to write your story (page 3). You can also use paper you have at home.
• Six-sided Die Template (page 4). You can also use a die you have at home.

Click to read The Girl Who Cried Wolf.  You can find this book in your Footsteps2Brilliance app under Level 3 (Blue) in the Aesop’s Fables series. Read the book with your child, then complete the activity.  You can also reread The Boy Who Cried Wolf to see how the stories are similar.

Print a copy of the die.  You can also use a die you have at home.

Cut out the die, fold on the lines and glue on the tabs to form a paper die. Be careful not to use too much glue!

Print a copy of the Roll-a-Story activity.  This chart will tell you which characters and setting your new fable will be about.

Print a copy of the lined paper and the graphic organizer.  You will need these to write your story. You can also use lined paper you have at home.

Roll the die once to see which characters your story will be about.

Then, roll the die a second time to see what the setting of your fable will be about.

Finally, roll the die a third time to see who the “lie” in your fable will be about.

Once you know your characters and setting use the graphic organizer to plan out your fable.  Remember fables teach a lesson.

Write your draft fable on a piece of lined paper.  Make sure to make all your edits and revisions.
